About the role#
The Weld Engineering Intern supports the Welding and Manufacturing Engineering teams. You will work on the development, evaluation, and improvement of welding processes and fabrication methods. This role offers hands-on experience with manufacturing operations, quality standards, and continuous improvement projects. You will work alongside experienced engineers to learn about welding technologies, materials, and industry codes.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams on troubleshooting and problem-solving.
- Assist with welding process development, testing, and production improvement projects.
- Observe and help with qualification testing for welding personnel.
- Prepare welding procedures, technical reports, and engineering documentation.
- Research and evaluate welding techniques, equipment, and fabrication methods.
- Perform weld inspections and collect production data to identify improvement opportunities.
- Support compliance with standards like ASME NAVSEA.
- Participate in investigations regarding weld quality and corrective actions.
- Follow all safety, quality, and environmental requirements in the manufacturing facility.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Welding, Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering.
- Must be entering your Sophomore or Junior year.
- Hands-on experience with GTAW and GMAW welding processes.
- A basic understanding of metallurgy and manufacturing principles.
- Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, or 3D design is a plus.
- Familiarity with engineering drawings and technical documentation is preferred.
