About the role#
As an Electrical Engineering Intern, you will join a project team to perform engineering and design tasks. This role focuses on applying engineering principles under close supervision to help you develop your professional skills. You will work on substation projects and gain exposure to the full project lifecycle.
What you'll do#
- Create design documents and drawings, including wiring diagrams from schematics and bills of materials.
- Apply field mark-ups to as-built drawings.
- Perform engineering support tasks such as relay burden, lighting, load flow, and short circuit calculations.
- Use engineering software for ground grid design, relay coordination, and transformer sizing.
- Apply industry standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Visit job sites to gain hands-on knowledge of substation construction and design.
- Manage your own tasks to meet project schedule requirements.
- Identify potential project problems and suggest solutions to your supervisor.
- Travel out of town for short periods as required by project needs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program for Electrical Engineering at an accredited university.
- A power focus and prior internship experience in the power field are preferred.
- Knowledge of electrical AC/DC fundamentals and three-phase power systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Familiarity with standard word processing, spreadsheet, and email software.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
