About the role#
Dominion Energy is seeking an Electrical Equipment Intern for the Summer 2027 term. Based at the Lincoln Park 2 District office in Herndon, Virginia, this role supports the Electric Transmission Field Operations team. You will work alongside experienced professionals to maintain high-voltage equipment and gain exposure to field operations. This position offers an introduction to the Electrical Equipment Development Program and future career pathways within the company.
What you'll do#
- Support personnel with the installation and maintenance of substation and power station equipment.
- Assist with testing transformers, circuit breakers, regulators, and CCVTs.
- Participate in aerial lift and infrared testing procedures.
- Collect and analyze oil samples from transformers and circuit breakers for DGA review.
- Help with transformer processing and the installation and testing of batteries and chargers.
- Assist with the procurement of materials, spare parts, and specialized tools.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a 2-year or 4-year technology degree program in Instrumentation Technology, Electrical & Electronic Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- An anticipated graduation date of Winter 2027 or later.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- A strong interest in hands-on technical work rather than design-focused roles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a strong aptitude for math and mechanics.
- Effective communication, teamwork, and time management skills.
- The ability to follow instructions and work safely in an outdoor field environment.
Location & details#
- Location: Herndon, Virginia.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time.
- Compensation: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour, depending on academic major and classification.
- Working conditions: The role involves significant outdoor work (76-100%) in heat and loud environments, with occasional travel (up to 25%).
