About the role#
The Electric Transmission Planning team is looking for graduate-level interns to help develop plans that ensure system reliability and meet future customer demand. You will work within the PJM Regional Transmission Expansion Planning Process to support our goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050. This role provides hands-on experience in utility planning and engineering.
What you'll do#
- Evaluate transmission system needs and develop expansion plans.
- Collaborate with internal teams like Operations Engineering and Substation Execution, as well as external stakeholders such as PJM.
- Design transmission solutions for new substations, data centers, and generator interconnections.
- Contribute to competitive FERC Order 1000 processes by proposing cost-effective solutions.
- Prepare project scopes, justifications, and presentations for internal and external approvals.
- Participate in meetings with PJM and regulatory bodies.
What you'll need#
- A bachelor’s degree in an engineering field.
- Current enrollment in a master’s or Ph.D. program in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering at an ABET accredited institution.
- A minimum GPA of 3.2.
- A graduation date of Fall 2027 or later.
- A strong grasp of engineering principles, AC/DC fundamentals, and three-phase power systems.
- Experience with analysis software like PSS/E, Python, TARA, or Aspen One-Liner is preferred.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
