About the role#
This internship provides students in engineering programs the chance to work within the Relay Construction and Maintenance department. You will support the team as they maintain protective relays and SCADA control systems to ensure grid reliability. You will work directly with Journeymen and Apprentice level Relay Technicians to learn technical skills and safety procedures.
What you'll do#
- Learn the fundamentals of relaying, protective schemes, controls, alarms, distribution SCADA, and communications.
- Assist with writing basic isolation procedures.
- Learn to use print reading and the red mark process.
- Develop an understanding of NERC compliance and the importance of accurate data.
- Gain hands-on experience by working alongside experienced technicians.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a two-year or four-year degree program in Engineering Technology or a related major.
- A cumulative GPA of at least 2.75.
- You must not graduate before August 2027.
- You must be at least 18 years old before starting the internship.
- A valid driver's license.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and work at heights or from suspended platforms.
- Willingness to work in environments with potential mechanical, electrical, or noise hazards.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.

- Locations: Plainfield, Indiana and Cincinnati, Ohio.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Modality: This is an on-site position. Reliable transportation is required.
- Status: This is a paid, full-time internship. No visa sponsorship is available for this role.
