About the role#
Fabcon is hiring a Structural Design Engineering Intern to support the design of precast concrete products. You will work under the guidance of experienced Design Engineers and mentors to apply engineering principles to active projects. This role involves learning our design processes, standards, and manufacturing practices while gaining practical experience in the construction industry.
What you'll do#
- Assist with engineering tasks on assigned projects.
- Review contract documents, drawings, and project specifications to understand project requirements.
- Perform basic engineering calculations, including wind, snow, concrete, and steel load requirements.
- Support the technical review of shop drawings and collaborate with drafters and engineers.
- Develop an understanding of precast concrete design, manufacturing, erection, and construction practices.
- Participate in project meetings and design discussions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program for Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Completion of foundational coursework in structural analysis, concrete design, or steel design is preferred.
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods and visit manufacturing or construction sites when required.
Location & details#
This is a paid, full-time internship with a rolling start date. The position offers remote and on-site work options. You may be based in Grandville, Michigan, or in Savage or Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Sponsorship is not provided for this role.
