About the role#
The Industrial Design team at Formlabs creates hardware that balances function and brand values. As a fellow, you will work alongside designers, engineers, and scientists to develop products from initial concepts through to production. You will contribute to the hardware user experience and help solve problems related to engineering and manufacturing constraints.
What you'll do#
- Help design new products from idea to production.
- Develop design concepts using clear and compelling visual communication.
- Prototype continuously, ranging from quick mockups to refined cosmetic models.
- Test designs with users and apply those results to the design process.
- Create high-quality CAD to communicate design intent.
- Collaborate with Product, UI Design, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to build balanced solutions.
- Assist with cosmetic specification and validation.
- Refine the hardware user experience from unboxing to maintenance.
What you'll need#
- A completed degree in Industrial Design, though related degrees in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Graphic Design, or Civil Engineering are also considered.
- A portfolio of relevant design work.
- Fluency in aesthetic decision-making and an eye for detail.
- The ability to communicate ideas quickly through hand sketches.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD, Keyshot, and Adobe CC.
- Experience with various prototyping methods.
- Experience solving problems within engineering and manufacturability constraints.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid fellowship based on-site in Somerville, Massachusetts.
- The role operates on a rolling basis with a 6-month timeline.
- We do not offer housing or relocation assistance for this position.
