About the role#
As a Peer Academic Coach, you will help students build the habits and strategies they need for long-term success. This role focuses on academic skills rather than specific course content. You will work with students to improve their organization, time management, and study habits. This is a paid position for students who want to support their peers in reaching their academic goals.
What you'll do#
- Meet one-on-one with students to assess their academic strengths and challenges.
- Create personalized study plans and time-management systems.
- Teach effective habits for note-taking, test preparation, and reading comprehension.
- Follow up with students identified through the Early Alert process.
- Help students set and monitor short- and long-term academic goals.
- Refer students to other campus resources like the Writing Center or counseling services.
- Maintain confidential records of your coaching sessions.
- Communicate with the Academic Support Services Coordinator about student progress.
- Attend staff meetings and required training sessions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at Greenville University with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- An empathetic and non-judgmental approach to working with peers.
- Ability to manage a caseload of students independently.
- Reliability and the ability to work in a self-directed manner.
- Previous experience in leadership, tutoring, or peer mentoring is preferred.
- A faculty or staff recommendation may be requested.
