About the role#
This Summer 2027 internship offers hands-on experience in commercial construction. You will work alongside project managers, superintendents, and field teams to build a foundation in construction principles. You will rotate through various aspects of the project lifecycle, including field operations, project engineering, and estimating. This role is designed to help you explore career paths like project management or field supervision.
What you'll do#
- Assist with project documentation such as daily reports, meeting minutes, and progress logs.
- Process submittals, RFIs, change order requests, and closeout materials.
- Track project schedules, look-ahead schedules, and punch list items.
- Participate in safety and quality control inspections, daily huddles, and coordination meetings.
- Support digital document management, including drawing and specification reviews.
- Gain exposure to estimating tasks like quantity takeoffs and bid reviews.
- Learn and use construction management software.
- Attend training sessions, jobsite tours, and company events.
- Prepare and deliver a presentation at the end of the summer summarizing your project experience.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or a related field.
- Interest in commercial construction, field operations, or preconstruction.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid drivers license.
- Willingness to learn and take on new assignments.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship based in Winchester, Virginia.
- You must be able to work on active construction sites, which involves walking on uneven terrain and navigating typical jobsite conditions.
