    About the role#

    As a Compiler Engineering Intern, you will work with the SYCL Runtime team to improve Intel's open-source compiler stack. You will analyze applications, triage performance issues, and help develop features that improve hardware performance on CPU and GPU architectures. This role provides hands-on experience with compiler technologies and the software ecosystem.

    What you'll do#

    • Analyze and triage performance issues in C++, OpenMP, and SYCL applications and benchmarks.
    • Investigate and resolve compiler defects by preparing reproductions and tracking bug submissions.
    • Contribute to compiler middle-end and back-end development, including scalar and loop optimization and vectorization.
    • Run functional and performance experiments, including stress testing, to identify product improvements.
    • Collaborate with cross-geo engineering and validation teams to maintain product quality.
    • Engage with open-source compiler communities to contribute to industry-wide solutions.

    What you'll need#

    • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field.
    • Hands-on experience with C/C++ coding, object-oriented programming, and data structures.
    • Proficiency in Linux and Windows command-line environments.
    • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
    • Familiarity with compiler technologies like middle-end/back-end development, linkers, or assemblers.
    • Knowledge of code optimization techniques for hardware performance.
    • Experience with parallel programming models such as OpenMP, CUDA, or SYCL.
    • Experience analyzing runtime behaviors for heterogeneous computing architectures.

    • Compensation: This is a paid internship.
