About the role#
This externship program provides practical experience in a small animal practice. You will work alongside our veterinary team to gain hands-on experience and prepare for your career after graduation. Rotations typically last two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks to fit your curriculum. Your schedule will include days, evenings, and weekends. We provide a stipend of $250 per week. You will be assigned a mentor who provides instruction and completes a written evaluation of your performance at the end of the program.
What you'll do#
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans for medical cases.
- Assist in the management of medical cases and provide wellness care.
- Scrub in to surgery and polish your technical skills.
- Develop client communication skills.
- Produce appropriate medical records, including SOAPs, within daily practice time limits.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- A professional approach to conduct and dress.
