About the role#
The Materials Science Division is seeking graduate students or recent graduates to join us for the Fall 2026 term. This internship provides practical research experience in areas such as organic and inorganic synthesis, analytical chemistry, computational materials science, metallurgy, and nanoscale characterization. You will work alongside scientists on projects that contribute to our ongoing research and development efforts.
What you'll do#
- Conduct research in your assigned area under limited direction and supervision.
- Perform technical assignments of basic complexity to support larger scientific projects.
- Assist scientists with laboratory work, computational modeling, or data analysis.
- Present your findings through formal presentations or poster sessions.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the division.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a graduate program or a recent bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemistry, materials science, computational chemistry, or a related field.
- Demonstrated academic achievement in your field of study.
- Experience applying basic scientific principles to solve technical problems.
- Ability to communicate concepts and ideas effectively.
- Proficiency with personal computers and software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Eligibility to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

- Modality: This is a full-time, on-site position.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship with a monthly salary range of $6,752 to $8,201, determined by your most recent completed academic year.
