About the role#
Mauldin & Jenkins is hiring an Accounting Intern to join our team in Bradenton. This is a paid, full-time, on-site internship. You will work on engagements involving audits, management services, and tax return preparation.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the study and evaluation of internal accounting controls.
- Test compliance with internal controls.
- Prepare financial statements following generally accepted accounting principles.
- Examine client reconciliations of bank accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Review client reconciliations of subsidiary accounts to controls.
- Compute accruals and document the underlying support.
- Prepare schedules for write-offs of prepaid expenses and deferred charges.
- Review data input, resolve technical tax issues, and assist in tax preparation reviews.
- Research and assess various tax issues.
- Provide information to senior staff members.
- Meet deadlines for tax returns and other assigned projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a college program with a major or concentration in accounting.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and auditing standards (GAAS).
- Working knowledge of federal and state income tax laws.
- Awareness of current developments in the accounting profession.
- Ability to speak and write effectively.
- Professional attitude, dress, poise, and conduct.
- Strong attention to accuracy when handling information.
- Proficiency in using firm manuals and computer software.
