About the role#
Michigan United is hiring a Canvassing Fellowship Lead for the 2026 election cycle. This role focuses on voter outreach, leadership development, and building power through community organizing. You will work on-site in Kalamazoo to execute a large-scale voter contact program. This is a temporary position that concludes on November 6, 2026.
What you'll do#
- Conduct extensive door-to-door outreach to register, educate, and mobilize voters.
- Provide daily support to the management team by setting standards for conversation quality and metrics.
- Shadow fellows in the field to provide real-time feedback and coaching.
- Prepare and organize materials for daily canvassing operations.
- Ensure the integrity of all canvass data collected via the MiniVAN app.
- Support team launches, onboardings, and daily briefings.
- Troubleshoot issues while on turf and help maintain team morale.
What you'll need#
- A commitment to racial, gender, and economic justice.
- Previous experience working with a diverse staff.
- Effective communication skills and comfort speaking with the public.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Reliable transportation and the ability to drive to various locations.
- A data-capable smartphone.
- A desire to learn and grow as an organizer.
Location & details#
- Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $25 per hour for 40 hours per week.
- Bonus: A $1,250 retention bonus is available for staff who remain through November 6, 2026.
- Relevant majors: Political Science, Sociology, Communications, Public Health, or Criminal Justice.
