About the role#
This is a summer internship for graduate students and PhD candidates. You will join the Markets and Grid Research and Development teams to work on technical challenges related to grid reliability and market operations. This position is based on-site in Carmel, Indiana, and runs from June 2nd, 2027, through August 13th, 2027. This role is paid and full-time.
What you'll do#
- Define research questions and explore solutions alongside R&D teams.
- Run grid or market simulations using engineering and optimization tools.
- Analyze historical data to identify patterns and evaluate new ideas.
- Build recommendations to support efficient market and grid operations.
- Attend community service events, intern socials, and networking activities.
- Present a summary of your project work and findings at the end of the term.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a graduate student or PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or Industrial Engineering (Operations Research).
- Coursework or project experience in power systems, optimization, electricity markets, renewable energy, or engineering modeling.
- Proficiency in Matlab, Python, PSS/E, TSAT, VSAT, or optimization software such as AMPL, AIMMS, or Gurobi.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively.
- Availability for the full duration of the internship from June 2nd to August 13th, 2027.
- Please note that this position does not offer visa sponsorship, including OPT or CPT.
