About the role#
As a System Planning Engineering Co-op, you will support efforts to improve how new energy resources and large electrical loads connect to the grid. You will work with a team to refine interconnection and transmission service processes while ensuring grid reliability during a period of industry change. This role involves evaluating the retirement of power plants, the addition of new resources, and the transmission infrastructure needed to serve electrical demand.
What you'll do#
- Write scripts to automate manual processes and improve workflows.
- Develop tools to provide better visibility into interconnection or transmission service requests.
- Create methods to organize and manage data more effectively.
- Collaborate with engineers to solve real-world grid reliability challenges.
- Support the evaluation of resource deliverability as grid conditions shift.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Junior or Senior undergraduate or graduate student.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Foundational coursework in Electrical Engineering.
- Exposure to power systems concepts, including power flow and electrical machines.
- Programming experience with Python is preferred.
- Familiarity with tools such as PSS®E, PowerWorld, or TARA is preferred.
- Experience with data or automation projects is preferred.
