About the role#
This externship provides hands-on experience in the operating room to help students transition into a Surgical Tech role. You will work in a clinical setting to support patient care and surgical procedures. This is a paid, full-time position for Summer 2026.
What you'll do#
- Prepare and maintain a clean, safe, and efficient environment for patient care.
- Apply aseptic techniques when setting up surgical areas, including gowning, gloving, and draping.
- Serve as a scrub assistant during procedures, passing instruments and anticipating the needs of the surgical team.
- Help set up the operating room by moving equipment like tables, microscopes, and cameras.
- Monitor instrument and sponge counts throughout cases.
- Transport patients, supplies, and equipment.
- Report emergent patient care situations or equipment issues to staff immediately.
- Follow infection control protocols and standard precautions.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma.
- Current enrollment and good standing in the MVCC Surgical Technologist program, including completion of the first and second cohort.
- Valid BLS certification.
- Basic computer skills and strong interpersonal communication.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull equipment while using proper technique.
- Flexibility to work variable shifts, including weekends and holidays.
