    About the role#

    As an Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Engineer Intern, you will gain hands-on experience supporting capital and reliability projects within a large-scale chemical manufacturing facility. You will work alongside experienced engineers, maintenance professionals, and operations personnel to execute projects that improve equipment reliability, process safety, and plant performance. You will participate in the full project lifecycle, including scoping, design, procurement, cost tracking, vendor coordination, and construction support.

    What you'll do#

    • Support the planning, development, and execution of electrical and instrumentation improvement projects.
    • Manage projects in SAP Project Portfolio Management (PPM) while tracking milestones, budgets, and progress.
    • Maintain project schedules and spending forecasts using SAP and Microsoft Excel.
    • Update and create engineering drawings using plant documentation and CAD software.
    • Prepare technical packages for instrumentation and electrical equipment replacements.
    • Obtain quotes from suppliers and contractors, evaluate proposals, and create purchase requisitions.
    • Develop scopes of work for contractors and construction teams.
    • Participate in field walks, construction reviews, and equipment installations.
    • Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and contractor teams to resolve issues.
    • Learn the fundamentals of instrumentation, process controls, and electrical distribution systems.
    • Present project achievements, recommendations, and business impact to engineering and site leadership.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
    • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of application and for at least one semester following the internship.
    • Strong interest in electrical systems, instrumentation, automation, or manufacturing operations.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
    • Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar CAD software.
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively within project teams.
    • Demonstrated initiative and willingness to learn in a hands-on industrial environment.
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Coursework in electrical systems, controls, power distribution, or project management is preferred.
    • Experience with CAD software, technical drawings, or industrial environments is preferred.
