About the role#
As a Tech Lead Manager for the Student Experience team, you will serve as the primary technical and people leader for our student-facing products. You will guide our logged-in student experience, helping families navigate higher education applications and enrollment. This role requires you to balance hands-on engineering work with direct management responsibilities. You will lead the team culture, define technical direction, and handle performance management for your reports.
What you'll do#
- Manage professional development, career growth, and performance for direct reports.
- Stay active in the codebase by handling bug fixes, compliance work, and technical debt.
- Partner with the Product Manager to evolve team processes and improve delivery speed.
- Model effective AI-assisted development practices for the team.
- Act as the primary technical representative for the team and make nontrivial architectural decisions.
- Monitor team health and correct technical or product-design issues before they impact delivery.
- Complete performance and calibration cycles for your team.
What you'll need#
- Strong, current hands-on software engineering experience with regular code contributions and reviews.
- Prior experience or clear readiness to handle both technical direction and people management simultaneously.
- Comfort working without a separate Tech Lead to rely on.
- Proficiency or strong aptitude for AI-assisted development tools and workflows.
- A proven track record of making pragmatic technical trade-offs under pressure.
- Experience with or openness to evolving agile and Scrum-based processes.
- Education in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
