    About the role#

    The Functional Safety Competence Centre at NXP manages safety architecture for our automotive, edge, audio, analog, and radar processing lines. As an intern, you will work alongside experienced safety architects and engineers. You will contribute to the development of safety solutions for a range of products, from cost-sensitive devices to high-performance SoCs, while ensuring compliance with industry standards.

    What you'll do#

    • Define and document safety requirements in compliance with ISO 26262 and IEC 61508.
    • Develop functional safety concepts for IPs, subsystems, and SoC platforms.
    • Perform safety analysis activities, including FMEDA, FTA, DFA, and Fault Injection.
    • Prepare safety work products for audits and assessments.
    • Review technical safety documentation, safety manuals, and safety case artifacts.
    • Integrate safety IPs and architecture solutions into products.
    • Collaborate with design, verification, software, and system engineering teams.
    • Participate in process improvement, automation, and the development of safety engineering methods.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, Automotive Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
    • A strong grasp of digital design fundamentals, computer architecture, microcontrollers, or SoC design.
    • Exposure to embedded systems, hardware-software interaction, or semiconductor development.
    • A basic understanding of functional safety concepts and an interest in automotive safety standards.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • You must be returning to school or graduating at the conclusion of the internship term.

    • Location: Austin, Texas (Oakhill office).
    • Term: Winter 2027.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • This is a paid, full-time internship.
