    About the role#

    Hitachi Rail is looking for an intern to join the Signalling Engineering team for the summer of 2027. This role provides direct exposure to wayside signalling engineering for metro and light rail systems. You will work on-site in Pittsburgh, supporting project teams while gaining hands-on experience in urban transit infrastructure.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist in designing wayside interlocking circuits following established procedures.
    • Program wayside microprocessor devices based on interlocking rules.
    • Prepare project and design documentation.
    • Set up and test wayside systems, including integration testing with Carborne and office systems.
    • Help develop cost estimates for project bids.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a 4-year university engineering program.
    • Competency in programming fundamentals, DC/AC circuit design, and digital logic.
    • Experience with troubleshooting and debugging.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills.
    • Ability to multi-task and communicate clearly in verbal and written formats.
    • Attention to detail and the ability to think strategically within a group.

    • Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
    • Term: Summer 2027 (May through August).
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Employment: Full-time, paid internship.
