About the role#
Pinellas County Public Works is seeking two interns to join the Water and Navigation Section. You will gain hands-on experience in environmental field inspection methods and learn how local, state, and federal regulations apply to dock, dredge, fill, and mangrove trimming permits. This is a paid, part-time position based in Clearwater.
What you'll do#
- Inspect project sites for permit applications and document existing conditions.
- Assess the presence of natural resources.
- Compile field notes into detailed post-inspection reports.
- Learn the regulatory framework governing local water and navigation permitting.
- Assist staff with additional duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- You must be at least 18 years old and able to speak, write, and comprehend English.
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a college or university program in Biology, Environmental Science, or a related natural science field.
- You must be a proficient swimmer and comfortable snorkeling.
- Attention to detail and the ability to learn new training and procedures quickly.
- Familiarity with marine resources like seagrass, corals, and mangroves is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Public Works Complex, Clearwater, Florida.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
- Commitment: Up to 24 hours per week for a 12-week period.
