About the role#
As a State and Local Tax (SALT) Intern, you will work alongside our staff to support the financial health of our clients. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience, and you will be treated as a member of our entry-level staff. You will contribute to business solutions and gain exposure to various tax service lines.
What you'll do#
- Provide tax consulting services for state and local taxes, including income, franchise, sales and use, gross receipts, and personal property taxes.
- Prepare state and local income and franchise tax returns.
- Research complex tax issues and provide conclusions through written technical memorandums or verbal communication.
- Write internal and external tax alerts regarding current tax developments and planning techniques.
- Build meaningful interactions with staff at all levels and our clients.
- Participate in training programs to deepen your knowledge of federal and state taxes.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in accounting, or a Master's degree in accounting or tax.
- Completion of the first two entry-level accounting courses and current enrollment in at least the first intermediate-level accounting course.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Pursuit of an LLM, JD, or CPA license.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work in a detail-oriented environment.

- This is a paid, full-time, on-site internship with rolling applications.

- Positions are available in Chicago and Schaumburg, Illinois; Traverse City, Southfield, Macomb, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Flint, East Lansing, Detroit, Auburn Hills, and Ann Arbor, Michigan; Toledo, Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati, Ohio; and Fort Collins and Denver Tech Center, Colorado.
- This position is non-exempt and may require hours beyond a standard 40-hour work week, as well as local, national, or international travel.
