    About the role#

    As an intern in the National Tax Office, you will work directly with professionals on emerging tax developments and controversy matters. This role involves supporting clients through complex tax environments and managing interactions with the Internal Revenue Service. You will be treated like entry-level staff, focusing on technical issues and practical guidance rather than administrative tasks.

    What you'll do#

    • Research technical positions, draft memos, and consult with clients on federal tax matters.
    • Engage with the IRS and prepare responses for exams, appeals, and collections.
    • Draft private letter ruling requests and assist with proactive tax planning.
    • Write internal and external tax alerts regarding current developments and emerging techniques.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a JD, LLM, or Master's degree program in Taxation.
    • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
    • A strong interest in tax law, tax controversy, and emerging tax issues.
    • The ability to analyze complex topics and communicate conclusions clearly in writing.

    • Locations: Southfield, Traverse City, Macomb, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, East Lansing, Detroit, Auburn Hills, and Ann Arbor, MI; Toledo, Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati, OH; Broomfield, Fort Collins, and Denver Tech Center, CO; Schaumburg and Chicago, IL.
    • Modality: This is a full-time, paid, hybrid position.
    • Term: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
