    About the role#

    The Local Reporting Network helps produce investigative journalism in communities where such stories would otherwise not be done. This program supports 15 partnerships over the course of 2026. Fellows work from their home newsrooms while receiving support and guidance from ProPublica editors and reporters. The work is published or broadcast by your newsroom and simultaneously by ProPublica.

    What you'll do#

    • Produce investigative journalism in partnership with newsrooms.
    • Submit a memo detailing your proposed project.
    • Work collaboratively with ProPublica editors and reporters.
    • Publish and broadcast your work through your newsroom.
    • Engage with data, research, and engagement reporting resources.

    What you'll need#

    • A proven track record of investigative reporting.
    • Ability to propose impactful community journalism projects.
    • A strong understanding of audience engagement.
    • Experience collaborating with editorial teams.
    • We encourage applicants from backgrounds including Journalism, Communications, Political Science, English, Public Health, Media Studies, Sociology, and History.

    Location & details#

    • This is a full-time, paid, remote role based in the United States.
    • Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
    • ProPublica provides a grant to the selected newsroom to cover the reporter's salary and benefits for the one-year partnership.
