About the role#
As a Geotechnical Engineering Intern, you will work under the guidance of experienced engineers to support design and construction activities for energy infrastructure projects like substations, transmission lines, and data centers. You will assist with site characterization, geologic risk analysis, and foundation design. This role is primarily office-based, with occasional site visits.
What you'll do#
- Develop and execute geotechnical characterization programs.
- Prepare geotechnical characterization reports and foundation design drawings.
- Process and analyze geotechnical data.
- Develop design recommendations for shallow and deep foundations.
- Assist with cost estimates and project documentation.
- Collaborate with engineers and construction managers to reach project goals.
- Conduct research and prepare reports or presentations.
- Attend team meetings to learn about design-build and engineer-procure-construct delivery methods.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor degree in civil engineering or a related field with a focus on structural design.
- Completed coursework in civil engineering fundamentals, including geotechnical, structures, concrete, and steel.
- Familiarity with structural modeling software such as LPILE, GROUP, or SHAFT.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and take direction from senior engineers.
