About the role#
The Natural Gas Trading Intern will gain hands-on exposure to North American physical and financial natural gas markets. You will work alongside traders, schedulers, analysts, and risk professionals to support commercial activities. This includes pipeline transportation, storage optimization, market analysis, physical gas transactions, and financial hedging. You will finish the internship by presenting a summer project to the trading team.
What you'll do#
- Assist traders with daily market analysis, pricing, and position monitoring.
- Track NYMEX Henry Hub futures, basis markets, options, and regional indices.
- Research market-moving events like weather, storage reports, and pipeline constraints.
- Develop and maintain Excel and Tableau reports for the trading desk.
- Monitor financial hedge performance and risk metrics.
- Assist in tracking physical gas purchases and sales across pipeline hubs.
- Learn gas scheduling and nomination processes.
- Monitor pipeline notices, maintenance events, and flow restrictions.
- Analyze regional basis differentials and transportation opportunities.
- Maintain supply and demand balances for trading regions.
- Review storage inventories and transportation capacity.
- Conduct data analysis using historical pricing, flow, weather, and storage datasets.
- Create dashboards and presentations for traders and management.
- Participate in special projects focused on market optimization, automation, or trading analytics.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a student for the Fall 2027 semester, with graduation occurring after the internship.
- Cumulative and major GPA of 3.3 or higher.
- Legal authorization to work in the USA without sponsorship.
- Active studies in finance, economics, business, mathematics, statistics, data analytics, or similar fields.
- Solid analytical and quantitative skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to challenge the status quo.
- Experience with Tableau, Power BI, Python, VBA, SQL, or data visualization tools is preferred.
- Interest in commodity markets, risk management, and energy fundamentals.
