    About the role#

    Schnabel Engineering is seeking a full-time Civil Engineering intern for the summer of 2027. This position focuses on applying professional engineering principles to real-world projects under the supervision of senior staff. You will gain practical experience through a mix of office and field work.

    What you'll do#

    • Observe subsurface exploration and perform infiltration testing.
    • Use GPS equipment for boring layouts.
    • Conduct construction observation and materials testing at job sites.
    • Perform laboratory testing.
    • Create basic plans and figures using AutoCAD and GIS.
    • Assist engineers in the preparation of geotechnical reports and proposals.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree program in Civil Engineering.
    • Computer literacy and good communication skills.
    • Ability to work as part of a team.
    • Willingness to work outdoors and perform a variety of tasks.
    • Ability to routinely lift up to 50 pounds.
    • A valid U.S. driver’s license.
    • Ability to pass a background check and a pre-employment drug screening.

    • Location: Blacksburg, Virginia.
    • Term: Summer 2027 (May through August).
    • Modality: On-site.
    • This is a paid, full-time internship.
