About the role#
The Dance/Movement Therapy Intern will join the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Program at SCO Family of Services. You will work with children from birth to age five and their caregivers. This role focuses on providing trauma-informed and relationship-based therapeutic services within a multidisciplinary team. You will be supervised by a licensed creative arts therapist while gaining clinical hours toward ADTA certification.
What you'll do#
- Lead or co-facilitate individual and group dance/movement therapy sessions for infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children.
- Use movement-based interventions to support parent-child dyadic work, focusing on attachment, emotional regulation, and communication.
- Observe and document play behavior, child development, and relational dynamics.
- Participate in weekly team case conferences and clinical supervision.
- Collaborate with educators and mental health professionals to support the social-emotional development of children.
- Assist with planning creative arts programming and family events.
- Maintain clinical documentation such as treatment plans and session notes.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Master’s level Creative Arts Therapy program.
- A strong interest in working with underserved communities and infant mental health.
- A foundational understanding of trauma-informed care, attachment theory, and child development.
- Enthusiasm for working with caregivers and very young children.
- The ability to work well within a multidisciplinary, community-based setting.
- Strong interpersonal and observation skills. Bilingual or multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
