About the role#
Shulman & Partners LLP is hiring an Articling Student for our Toronto office. This role offers hands-on training in family law under a structured mentorship model. You will work directly with senior lawyers to build your skills in file management, court preparation, and client communication.
What you'll do#
- Support lawyers on active family law files with regular guidance.
- Conduct legal research, interpret legislation, and summarize case law.
- Draft court and settlement materials, including pleadings, affidavits, briefs, and correspondence.
- Organize financial disclosure documents and assist in preparing Financial Statements.
- Prepare materials for mediations, conferences, motions, and trials.
- Attend court and dispute resolution processes to observe or participate as permitted.
- Coordinate with administrative staff and clerks to complete tasks accurately.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited JD program and eligibility to article in Ontario through the LSO.
- Strong judgment and the ability to handle sensitive client matters with discretion.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for interactions with clients, counsel, and court staff.
- High standards for accuracy when drafting documents and reviewing evidence.
- A genuine interest in family law and a willingness to take feedback.
- Reliability in meeting deadlines and managing tasks.
Location & details#
- Location: Toronto, Ontario.
- Work Modality: Hybrid.
- Employment: Full-time, paid position.
- Salary: $70,000 annually, prorated for a 10-month term.
