    About the role#

    The Southwest Florida Water Management District is hiring a student intern to join the Environmental Resource Permitting Bureau in Tampa. You will work alongside professional engineers in the ERP Evaluation and Compliance section to help safeguard wetlands, waterways, and natural systems. This role is paid at $16.00 per hour and is scheduled for up to 25 hours per week.

    What you'll do#

    • Conduct investigations into water-resource permitting and compliance activities.
    • Research and analyze files of record, including historical permits, engineering plans, and compliance reports.
    • Review permit applications for completeness and accuracy.
    • Generate professional correspondence such as review letters and internal summaries.
    • Participate in construction inspection site visits to document project progress and field conditions.
    • Verify permit compliance by assessing whether construction activities meet environmental protection measures.
    • Perform support functions for the ERP Evaluation and Compliance team.

    What you'll need#

    • High School Diploma.
    • Currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or vocational program.
    • Minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate students or 3.0 for graduate students.
    • Valid driver's license.
    • Preferred: Undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Civil, Environmental, or Water Resources Engineering.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Tampa, Florida.
    • Work Modality: On-site.
    • Schedule: Up to 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
    • Travel: Occasional travel using a District vehicle within the coverage area is required.
