About the role#
SUNY Ulster is hiring a Student Success Counselor to support student academic progress and wellness. This role focuses on adult learners and involves managing a dedicated caseload from admission through completion. You will act as a primary point of contact, helping students create and monitor academic and career plans. This is a full-time, grant-funded position based in Stone Ridge, New York. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to accommodate student schedules and community events.
What you'll do#
- Provide counseling and advising on academic progress and personal wellness.
- Assist students in accessing public benefits and community resources such as food, housing, and childcare.
- Manage cases for students enrolled in SNAP E&T programs.
- Develop and facilitate professional skills workshops.
- Collect and analyze data to improve student services and the overall student experience.
- Coordinate and run the New Start four-week summer program.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, including FERPA and Title IV.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor’s degree in education, student development, social work, or a related field.
- Two or more years of experience in advising, student recruitment, retention, or related student services.
- Experience supporting first-generation, low-income, or at-risk student populations.
- Proven ability to help students overcome personal or academic challenges.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and case management technology platforms.
