    About the role#

    We are seeking an engineering student to join the T&D Standards & Innovation team. You will support projects focused on grid protection and control technologies, grid modeling, and optimization for distributed energy resources and electric vehicles. This role involves working on equipment specifications, engineering design practices, and construction standards alongside utility partners.

    What you'll do#

    • Support the development of new protection and control technologies for future grids.
    • Develop hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing plans and models for sensors, controllers, and protective relays.
    • Investigate and deploy communication platforms and protocols for edge and centralized control applications.
    • Conduct power system analysis using software such as PSSE, PSCAD, CYME, DSA Tools, and ASPEN/CAPE.
    • Build statistical and analytical models to predict power system parameters.
    • Analyze grid-enhancing technologies and their applications.
    • Assist with technology evaluations, pilots, tests, and equipment standardization.
    • Prepare and present technical reports and papers.
    • Collaborate with various utility departments to support project success.

    What you'll need#

    • Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
    • Current enrollment as a second-year Master or PhD student is preferred.
    • Proficiency in at least one popular computer programming language.
    • Strong academic background with attention to detail.
    • Demonstrated organization and presentation skills.
    • Familiarity with power flow equations, symmetrical components, and power system stability is strongly recommended.
    • Experience with power system analysis and control simulation software is helpful.
