About the role#
As a Packaging Engineering Intern at The J.M. Smucker Co., you will work within our packaging department to support data-based decision making. You will use our packaging lab to perform various tests and contribute to sustainability goals through source and cost reduction efforts. This role involves collaborating with internal partners and external suppliers to identify structural improvements for products found on store shelves.
What you'll do#
- Use the packaging lab to conduct test methods such as vibration, drop, side impact, compression, tensile, and burst tests.
- Collaborate with external suppliers to identify structure improvements while evaluating their impact on sustainability, production efficiency, and material costs.
- Support material evaluation activities by performing data collection and statistical analysis on packaging types like rigid containers, flexible films, cartons, and corrugated materials.
- Maintain technical documentation including technical drawings, assembly instructions, pallet patterns, and database entries.
- Support production line assessments for alternative packaging solutions.
What you'll need#
- Sophomore, Junior, or Senior standing in a degree program.
- Educational experience in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
- Strong skills in time management, communication, and teamwork.

- Modality: Hybrid (60% in-office expectation).
- Terms: Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall 2027.
- Compensation: This is a paid, full-time internship.
