About the role#
The Enterprise IT Strategy team at UMB Bank works to shape and execute our cloud and infrastructure strategy. As an IT Blockchain Intern, you will join this group to research and develop solutions related to blockchain, digital assets, and distributed ledger technology. You will assist in evaluating new use cases and help translate technical findings into strategic recommendations for the organization.
What you'll do#
- Conduct research on blockchain platforms, tokenization, smart contracts, and broader technology trends.
- Analyze potential blockchain use cases by reviewing business value, operational needs, and implementation challenges.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and support project planning.
- Monitor market activity and competitive developments across financial services and digital asset ecosystems.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and materials to summarize research findings and project updates.
- Support proof-of-concept efforts and document workflows, risks, and key considerations for potential solutions.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- A demonstrated interest or experience in blockchain, digital assets, fintech, or emerging technologies.
- A foundational understanding of blockchain concepts like distributed ledgers, consensus models, smart contracts, and wallets.
- Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to translate findings into clear insights.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for professional presentations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Legal authority to work in the United States. Please note that sponsorship is not available for this position.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship based in Kansas City, Missouri.
- The role follows a hybrid schedule, with on-site work required Monday through Thursday and remote work on Friday.
- The position operates on a rolling basis.
