    About the role#

    As a Material and Process Engineering Intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers to gain hands-on experience with launch vehicle parts, materials, and processes. You will participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and laboratory activities while supporting the development of aerospace hardware.

    What you'll do#

    • Support materials selection, characterization, and qualification of metallic, polymer, composite, and additively manufactured components.
    • Assist in developing, reviewing, and improving material, process, and manufacturing specifications.
    • Support mechanical, metallurgical, chemical, and environmental testing.
    • Analyze test data and prepare technical reports, presentations, and engineering documentation.
    • Participate in material failure investigations and root-cause analysis.
    • Support the evaluation of material properties, compatibility, degradation, and performance.
    • Assist with manufacturing process development, troubleshooting, and process improvement.
    • Work with engineering, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and technicians to resolve material and process issues.
    • Research industry standards, specifications, material properties, and technical literature.
    • Help develop and maintain engineering documentation, databases, and material requirements.

    What you'll need#

    • Completed at least your Junior year of college by the start of the internship.
    • Actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.
    • Plans to be enrolled in classes during the Fall 2027 semester.
    • Ability to work full-time for a minimum of 10 weeks during Summer 2027.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
    • Experience or familiarity with metallurgy, heat treatment, welding, brazing, additive manufacturing, composites, coatings, corrosion, adhesives, or polymeric materials.
    • Familiarity with materials characterization, laboratory testing, engineering drawings, and industry standards.
    • Experience with failure analysis, microscopy, or mechanical testing.
    • Experience working with aerospace materials like aluminum, titanium, nickel-based superalloys, stainless steels, or high-temperature materials.
    • Must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR regulations.

    • Locations: Denver, CO; Pueblo, CO; Cape Canaveral, FL; Decatur, AL.
    • Work Modality: On-site.
    • Term: Summer 2027.
    • Valid driver’s license and motorized vehicle transportation required if assigned to Alabama, Florida, or Pueblo, Colorado.
