About the role#
UofL Health offers nursing students an opportunity to transition from student to professional nurse. This externship provides hands-on experience working alongside registered nurses to develop clinical reasoning skills. This is a paid, full-time, on-site position for the Summer 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Function as a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) in the float pool.
- Assist in the delivery of both direct and indirect nursing care under supervision.
- Communicate effectively with all members of the health care team.
- Obtain laboratory specimens as directed.
- Assist with all aspects of Registered Nursing patient care under direct supervision.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in a nationally accredited nursing program.
- Successful completion of nursing fundamentals or foundations by the program start date.
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- Anticipated graduation date between August 2027 and July 2028.
- BLS for Healthcare Provider certification.
