About the role#
VEG offers an intensive, hands-on externship for veterinary students interested in emergency medicine. You will work directly with experienced emergency doctors to gain exposure to real-world cases. This program allows you to explore your specific interests in ER medicine while building clinical and professional skills.
What you'll do#
- Work alongside highly skilled emergency doctors.
- Collaborate with your team in a busy environment.
- Learn to diagnose a variety of emergent conditions.
- Develop treatment plans and assist with medical records.
- Learn to effectively communicate with customers.
- Scrub into surgeries.
What you'll need#
- You are a 3rd or 4th year student currently enrolled in an AVMA accredited veterinary school.
- You hold active AVMA/PLIT personal liability insurance.
- You have personal medical insurance.
- You are able to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and work on the floor.
- You can lift up to 25 kg on your own and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
- You are willing to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.

- This is an unpaid, full-time, on-site externship.
- The program runs during the Winter 2027 term (January 2027 through June 2027).
- Locations are available across the United States.
