    About the role#

    This externship program provides hands-on experience in emergency veterinary medicine. You will work alongside credentialed veterinary technicians to gain exposure to the realities of ER care. The program is designed to help you build a professional foundation and determine if emergency medicine is the right career path for you.

    What you'll do#

    • Learn from emergency veterinary professionals through real-time mentoring.
    • Shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, and inpatient care.
    • Practice specific skills required by your school’s proficiency checklist.
    • Experience the teamwork and pace of an emergency hospital.
    • Explore whether a career in emergency medicine is the right fit for you.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program.
    • Enrollment in a course that requires externship hours or skills.
    • Proof of current rabies vaccination or titer.
    • Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods, kneel, and work on the floor.
    • Ability to lift up to 25 kg independently and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
    • Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
