About the role#
The Legal Intern supports the legal department through contract drafting, legal research, and assistance with litigation matters. You will work with the legal, development, investment, and capital project teams, as well as external counsel, to support daily operations. This is a full-time, paid summer 2027 internship.
What you'll do#
- Review and draft construction-related contracts, including AIA Agreements, forms, and vendor or consultant contracts.
- Conduct substantive legal research on issues affecting the business, such as construction, contract interpretation, insurance, indemnity, and senior housing operations.
- Assist the litigation team with managing general and professional liability claims and suits.
- Review and analyze contracts, correspondence, and project documents relevant to claims.
- Draft discovery responses, litigation hold notices, waiver letters, initial case summaries, and internal reports.
- Assist with the review of motions and pleadings prepared by outside counsel.
- Support the internal review and production of materials requested in discovery.
- Update the legal team’s contract database, matter tracking systems, and internal policies.
- Support ongoing efforts to update templates and references.
- Participate in meetings with internal teams and external counsel.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited J.D. program.
- Completion of, or current enrollment in, a Construction Law course is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with Adobe is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
