About the role#
WhiteWater is looking for a Data Science Intern to support its natural gas trading desk in Austin, Texas. This role focuses on the intersection of daily market reporting and quantitative analysis. You will provide traders with fundamental data to evaluate supply and demand while working with the Data Scientist and Strategist to build models for trading signals. This position is a full-time, paid opportunity for the Summer 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Build, maintain, and deliver daily reports on natural gas supply and demand fundamentals, including production, storage, and weather-driven demand.
- Monitor fundamental data for shifts that could influence price movement and escalate findings to traders.
- Partner with the Data Scientist and Strategist to develop and refine quantitative models for identifying trading signals.
- Contribute to the automation and scaling of data pipelines that support reporting and research.
- Support ad hoc analysis requests related to specific trading opportunities and market events.
- Maintain data integrity across internal and third-party sources.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
- Working knowledge of SQL and Python or a similar language for data analysis.
- Demonstrated interest in commodity markets, trading, or energy fundamentals through coursework, projects, or simulations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical analysis to a trading audience.
- Attention to detail and the ability to manage recurring deliverables under pressure.
