    About the role#

    As a Controls Engineer Intern, you will join the Flight Controls team to develop and maintain software systems for our autonomous aircraft. You will work on real flight data and simulation tools to help our vehicles perform across diverse flight conditions. This role offers the chance to see your code fly on our delivery drones.

    What you'll do#

    • Design, implement, and test flight algorithms to improve vehicle controller performance.
    • Build tools and tests to verify design performance and prevent software regressions.
    • Develop simulation and analysis tools to predict vehicle performance and ensure system safety.
    • Analyze flight data from our global fleet to identify areas for improvement and assess recent upgrades.
    • Design onboard integrity tests to monitor system performance.
    • Present your results and technical changes to the engineering team.

    What you'll need#

    • Current pursuit of a degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or Mathematics.
    • Strong applied math skills.
    • Proficiency in C, C++, or Rust.
    • Experience with technical computing tools such as MATLAB, Python, or Julia.
    • Familiarity with GitHub and multi-developer environments.
    • Exposure to integrated inertial navigation, dynamic modeling, linear control analysis, or optimal control.

    • Location: South San Francisco, California.
    • Term: Summer 2027 (May/June to August/September).
    • Modality: Full-time, on-site.
    • This is a paid internship.
