    About the role#

    The DT Network Intern joins the Network Infrastructure Services team to design, build, and implement IT networks across Amtrak. You will support the team in maintaining the connectivity that keeps our railroad operating. This is a paid, on-site internship based in Washington, DC.

    What you'll do#

    • Coordinate and install network infrastructure, including switches, wireless access points, and monitoring endpoints.
    • Test advanced Wi-Fi and RF engineering technologies through proof-of-concept initiatives.
    • Analyze network and application data to evaluate usage statistics for high-priority locations.
    • Use Business Intelligence and AI to build tools, APIs, and processes for network engineering.
    • Create network design topologies and Bills of Materials for Amtrak facilities.
    • Develop project deliverables, including business requirements and test cases.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a degree program for Networking Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Telecommunications Engineering.
    • Completion of at least 2 years of undergraduate study or junior status.
    • A cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
    • A basic understanding of network protocols and wireless/RF technologies.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Availability to work at least 16 hours per week.

    • Location: Washington, DC.
    • Work Modality: On-site.
    • Term: Fall 2026 and Winter 2027.
    • Compensation: $18.00 to $35.00 per hour, plus rail pass privileges and one PTO day per academic year.
