About the role#
The Child Development Lab (CDL) Student Teacher Assistant supports the program by providing a developmentally appropriate environment and curriculum. You will work with staff to maintain positive relationships with children and families while promoting a positive work environment. This is a part-time student position, capped at 20 hours per week, beginning in August 2026 for the Fall semester.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the development and implementation of evidence-based curriculum.
- Function as a collaborative team-teacher, providing instruction, supervision, and coaching to student interns and volunteers.
- Collect evidence to document children’s learning and development.
- Contribute to planning weekly outcomes for children.
- Provide leadership and serve as a role model for early childhood practices.
- Communicate program philosophy and policy to families and volunteers.
- Assist in facilitating family programs, events, and community outreach.
- Share daily observations and progress updates with families.
- Identify and report suspected child abuse and neglect.
- Participate in professional development.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at CSU, Chico with at least 6 units for undergraduates or 4 units for graduate students.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, and sit at a child's level for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Tuberculosis, MMR, and Tdap clearance.
- Successful completion of a post-offer, pre-employment physical.
- Successful Department of Justice and FBI background clearance.
- Experience working with children is preferred.
- 12 units in Child Development or Early Education is preferred.
- Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.
