About the role#
Auto-Owners Insurance is hiring for a Personal Lines Underwriting Internship for the Summer 2027 term. This is a paid, full-time position based on-site in West Des Moines, Iowa. You will gain hands-on experience in the insurance industry by working alongside our underwriting team to evaluate risk and support our agency partners.
What you'll do#
- Learn insurance coverages, contracts, company philosophy, and procedures to support underwriting decisions.
- Review company policies, manuals, forms, and endorsements to understand their application.
- Analyze loss experience, financial conditions, and the physical characteristics of various risks.
- Develop a working knowledge of the different supporting sections within the underwriting department.
- Communicate effectively with independent agents and internal staff through verbal and written channels.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in college, entering your junior or senior year.
- Pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or Statistics.
- Ability to organize data, manage multiple tasks, and make independent decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Capability to resolve complex issues.
- Interest in building product knowledge through approved educational programs.
