About the role#
Avera Health offers a 10-12 week paid Nurse Clinical Internship for Summer 2027. Interns work under the guidance of a Registered Nurse mentor to provide patient care and gain professional experience. This role requires a commitment to the mission and values of the organization, including maintaining patient confidentiality and working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
What you'll do#
- Provide patient care by reviewing physician prescriptions and coordinating with the healthcare team.
- Develop nursing care plans by obtaining medical histories, examining patients, and documenting physical and psychological status.
- Provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support to patients and their families.
- Teach healthcare requirements and self-care skills to patients and families.
- Evaluate patient care by adhering to therapeutic standards and measuring health outcomes.
- Maintain a safe and healthy environment by following infection-control policies and medication protocols.
- Document care services in patient and department records.
- Manage patient care equipment and maintain necessary supplies.
- Enhance nursing capabilities through training activities outlined by leadership and your mentor.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a CCNE or NLN accredited Registered Nursing program.
- Completed all but the final one or two semesters of your nursing program.
- Ability to work specified hours, including rotating shifts.
- Adequate visual acuity to perform duties.
- Ability to communicate effectively and distinguish speech and other sounds.

- Term: Summer 2027.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $20.00 per hour.
- Schedule: Part-time, 72 hours per 2-week pay period, with shifts varying by department.
