About the role#
The Nurse Clinical Internship at Avera St. Benedict Hospital provides nursing students with hands-on experience under the guidance of a Registered Nurse mentor. You will practice at a competent level of care while assuming responsibility for your actions and patient outcomes. This role involves working in a multidisciplinary team environment to provide support to patients and their families.
What you'll do#
- Provide patient care by reviewing physician prescriptions and coordinating with the healthcare team.
- Develop nursing care plans by obtaining medical histories, examining patients, and documenting physical and psychological status.
- Offer physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and their families.
- Instruct patients and families on conditions, medications, and self-care skills.
- Evaluate patient care by measuring outcomes against established standards and modifying care plans as needed.
- Maintain a safe and healthy environment by following infection-control policies and medication administration procedures.
- Document care services by charting in patient records.
- Manage patient care equipment and supplies, including troubleshooting and restocking.
- Enhance nursing capabilities through training directed by leadership.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a CCNE or NLN accredited Registered Nursing program.
- Completion of all but the final one or two semesters of your nursing program.
- Ability to perform all essential job functions.
- Adequate visual acuity to perform duties.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to hear and distinguish sounds.
Location & details#
- Location: Parkston, South Dakota.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm or 7pm-7am), 3 shifts per week, with a rotation every third weekend and holiday.
- Status: Full-time and paid.
