About the role#
Bascom Hunter is looking for an Industrial Engineering Intern to support operational efficiency and data-driven projects in our aerospace and defense operations. You will work alongside engineers, technicians, and operations staff to evaluate our current processes. The goal is to identify ways to improve quality, consistency, and scalability in the production of our defense electronics and aerospace systems. This role offers the chance to take ownership of projects from the initial problem definition through to the final implementation.
What you'll do#
- Evaluate engineering, manufacturing, and business processes to find efficiency improvements.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including operations, quality, and engineering.
- Collect and analyze data to identify trends, constraints, and operational bottlenecks.
- Develop data-driven recommendations and solutions for identified problems.
- Assist with process mapping, capacity planning, and resource utilization.
- Create metrics to measure process performance and the impact of changes.
- Support the implementation of standardized practices and process controls.
- Improve the flow of materials, information, and documentation across departments.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and process documentation to communicate your findings.
- Monitor the results of implemented changes to ensure effectiveness.
- Manage your assigned projects against established schedules.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collect, organize, and interpret data.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proactive mindset with the ability to take ownership of projects.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with process improvement methodologies like Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma is helpful.
- Experience with data analysis, visualization, or statistical tools.
- Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes relevant to aerospace or defense.
- Experience developing process maps, procedures, or technical documentation.
- Previous experience through internships, research, or project teams.

- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time and part-time options available, with flexible start and end dates based on your academic schedule.
