About the role#
Bird Construction is seeking a Student Estimator for a 4 or 8 month co-op position starting in September 2026. This role provides an opportunity to manage specific responsibilities independently while receiving guidance from a supervisor and technical mentor.
What you'll do#
- Review project plans, specifications, and related documents to understand project scope and requirements.
- Conduct take-offs from project drawings to develop material and labor quantity estimates.
- Use estimating software to prepare detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, and subcontractor quotes.
- Assist in preparing bid proposals by organizing and compiling relevant information.
- Collaborate with senior estimators and project managers to analyze bids for accuracy.
- Maintain and update cost databases, historical data, and estimating resources.
- Support the team by tracking project bids and market trends.
- Participate in meetings to provide input on estimating matters.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program such as Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management.
- Completion of at least one more semester of education following the internship.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Ability to lead and operate in an environment where change happens frequently.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to build and maintain positive professional relationships.
- A sense of urgency and commitment to achieving goals.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a positive attitude.
