About the role#
The Front Desk Assistant supports the Department of Housing and Residence Life at the Blinn College Brenham campus. You will assist the Residence Hall Director with daily operations, serve as a point of contact for residents and guests, and help maintain a secure environment in the residence hall.
What you'll do#
- Staff the front desk and handle administrative tasks.
- Check student IDs and sign in guests.
- Monitor building entrances and security cameras.
- Provide keys for residents during lockouts and update FOB access.
- Respond to questions and concerns from residents and parents.
- Follow emergency procedures, fire alarm systems, and evacuation protocols.
- Assist with residence hall opening and closing procedures.
- Review room inventory forms and Personal Data Sheets.
- Maintain a clean and organized desk and lobby area.
- Read and maintain the desk log.
- Respond to emergency exit door alarms.
- Confront policy violations and complete incident reports.
- Report maintenance and custodial issues.
- Respect and maintain student and staff confidentiality.
What you'll need#
- Federal Work-Study eligibility.
- Full-time student status at Blinn College, enrolled in at least 12 credit hours.
- Minimum 2.00 GPA and good standing.
- Ability to work 10 to 19 hours per week.
- Availability for shifts between 5:00 PM and 11:00 PM.
- Availability to work during assigned residence hall opening and closing periods.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
- Knowledge of copier and scanner operation.
- Strong interpersonal, clerical, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to attend all required training workshops and staff meetings.
- Previous experience as a student worker or office aide is preferred.
- Advanced computer skills are a plus.
